Another Hollywood, California, couple has announced their impending divorce. It always shocks those who follow celebrities as it shows that celebrities are not perfect. They do not lead the lives we see on the big screen. They are simply people and in their marriages and sometimes, it just does not work out.
Ben Affleck’s little brother, Casey Affleck, has risen to fame in his own right after receiving his Oscar for “Manchester by the Sea.” But, he has been working in Hollywood for years.
His estranged spouse, Summer Phoenix, has recently filed for divorce after months of separation. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the legal reason for the divorce. Affleck came under scrutiny a few years back in connection with sexual harassment obligations.
The two were married for six years and share two children together. They are currently seeking joint custody and Phoenix has filed for spousal support or alimony. While Phoenix is part of a Hollywood family as well (her brother is Joaquin Phoenix), it appears that the mass of the wealth that will be divided in the high asset divorce originated with Affleck. Alimony will help to ease the financial shock of the divorce for Phoenix as a change in marital status can greatly affect a person’s finances.
While their seems to be no dispute about child custody, there may be some disagreement as to how the assets will be divided. Each will have aspects that are important to them. The key is to have a full understanding of ones liabilities in a high asset divorce. From there, one can start to outline their priorities.
